VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SCHOOL PROGRAMS

There are lots of ways to volunteer this year.  Current volunteer needs include: Art Program Co-Chairs, Move-a-thon Co-Chairs for 2015/2016, bus support, recess monitors, nurses office, Cohort leader and room parents.  Please contact Athena Frederick, volunteer coordinator at volunteers@schmitzpark.org.  Visit http://www.schmitzparkpta.org/ for more details.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTING PROCESS

The Seattle School District has two “advanced learning” programs available for families who are interested. By state law, annual testing must be available to students to qualify for these programs, called “Spectrum” and the “Accelerated Progress Program” (APP). While we feel strongly that our rigorous academic program at Schmitz Park is intentionally designed to meet the needs of all learners, this may be an option that some families will want to consider. Fifth grade families may also want to consider this option ahead of middle school, although Madison Middle School also provides alternative placement tests and applications for advanced classes in Language Arts and Math. Advanced placement testing forms are available now in the office and on-line.  Deadline for Parent Forms is October 2nd.

BACK TO SCHOOL PACKETS - Monday, September 8

Back-to-school packets will go home on Monday. This year, everyone will get a very small packet consisting of their student’s “data sheet” plus the purchase envelope for school pictures. ALL the other forms for the year have been turned into electronic forms thanks to Lorie Bennett and the Schmitz Park PTA! The link for these forms will be available starting tomorrow, but if you would prefer a hard copy of the forms to fill out instead, please let your child’s teacher know. We have hard-copy packets available in the main office. Please look carefully at the student data sheet and return any updates and corrections as soon as possible. Click here for the page.

MR. KISCHNER'S BACK TO SCHOOL LETTER

Some families reportedly did not receive my back-to-school letter last week with introduction of new staff.
Here it is.
